June 2, 2026 ~ Chris Renwick and Lloyd Jackson spoke with Patrick Lynch, president of Lynch Funeral Homes. They discussed firearm deaths in children. Lynch seeks responsible gun ownership to prevent accidental shootings, emphasizing community support for grieving families.
DETROIT, MICH. ~ Since 2022, the number one cause of death amongst children in the United States between the ages of one and 19 are firearm-related injuries. Local faith leaders, police officials, and funeral directors like Paddy Lynch, president of Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, held a press conference on Sunday to bring awareness to the issue.
“We’re not here to debate one’s right to protect themselves and to bear arms,” Lynch said on ‘JR Morning. “What we’re trying to do is get people to lock up their firearms because so many of these deaths are accidental and could have been avoided.”
In 2023, the state of Michigan passed the Secure Storage Law, requiring all unattended firearms to be locked away and unloaded if in the presence of a minor. According to Lynch, this law looks like it’s been helping the death rate for children by firearms decrease, yet the issue still remains a top priority in regard to keeping children safe.
