TEXAS ~ A contentious and costly GOP primary came to a head Tuesday evening, with an incumbent Sen. John Cornyn being ousted from his seat.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, endorsed by President Donald Trump, faced off in a run-off election after no candidate won more than 50% of the vote in an initial primary election in March. The New York Times reported that Paxton won the runoff with over 63% of the vote, strengthening the roster of Trump loyalists with the GOP wing of Congress.
About $250 million was reportedly spent to keep Cornyn in office.
