DETROIT, MICH. ~ Fentanyl overdoses have become more and more common, but now a new vaccine is in the works to help prevent deaths from overdoses from the synthetic opioid. The new medicine, licensed by ARMR Sciences, has been developed to help destroy fentanyl in the bloodstream before it reaches the brain, according to Fox News. The vaccine is now set to be tested clinically on humans.
“What this does is they’re hoping that it will stop that blood-brain barrier, which controls your breathing,” Jamie McCarthy said, who is the son of WJR legendary host J.P. McCarthy and co-founder of Fentanyl Fathers. “Because what happens is fentanyl hits the brain and tells the lungs, ‘Oh, you’re cool. We got it. You don’t have to breathe.’ And that’s what happens to people. They suffocate.“
