DETROIT, MICH. ~ Running back David Montgomery’s time as a Detroit Lion is up. ESPN and other national and local outlets reported Monday morning that Detroit traded Montgomery to the Houston Texans for offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, a fourth-round NFL Draft pick, and a seventh-round selection. Montgomery suffered a decline in touches due to the emergence of star running back Jahmyr Gibbs and the lack of production from the offensive line in 2025. With the deal, the Lions secured $3.5 million in 2026 cap savings. Detroit will however have to eat $4.86 million in dead cap, which goes against the team’s salary cap for the 2026 season.
