DETROIT ~ Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation awards anywhere from 25 to 40 scholarships a year to local high school students throughout the state of Michigan based on their academic performance.
“We ask them to write an essay in which we ask them to identify a current social issue, recognizing what Mrs. Parks did in her era in dealing with civil rights, seeing if they could use her tools, and if they could follow what she did to try to solve a current issue,” James Rosenfeld, president of the Rosa Parks Foundation, told WJR. “It’s fascinating when we get these essays.“
