Feb. 12, 2026 ~ Congressman Tim Walberg, R-5th district, discusses votes on the SAVE Act, Canadian tariffs and another looming shutdown deadline.
DETROIT, MICH. ~ The U.S. House of Representatives passed the SAVE America Act Wednesday, which would require voters to show a government issued photo-ID to cast a ballot, if passed through the Senate, and ultimately, United States President Donald Trump. Proof of residence will also be required to show if the bill is passed.
“If you’re registered already, we’re not requiring that,” Congressman Tim Walberg said on Focus. “All we say is that you have to show an ID when you come. But if you’re just registering to vote, you have to also prove that you’re a citizen. And we’ve seen reasons why because there are certain cities like New York that now allow, in their elections, non-citizens to vote.”
