WASHINGTON D.C. ~ After President Donald Trump backtracked on his suggestion that he would use force, if required, to take control of Greenland, U.S. Rep. Shri Thanedar (MI-13) slammed the president for wanting to take “ownership” of the landmass and for straining relations with U.S. allies.
“He created the whole issue, and then he backtracked,” Thanedar told WJR. “We already have a 1951 treaty that allows us to do what he wants to do. If he wants to install military bases, his Gold Dome in Greenland, we have a way to do that. These are our allies. It is in the best interest for them to have a U.S. military presence in Greenland, (or) Iceland, as President Trump often called it. But look, this is something that needs to be negotiated with our allies. This is not to threaten and bully our allies and talk about war and then retract, and that seems to be his style.“
