Police were responded to a call from Muskegon Heights Academy High School on Tuesday night. A source told WZZM Muskegon that 13 people had gunshot injuries and a fifth person was assaulted. Muskegon Heights Police Chief Joseph Thomas Jr. told reporters that authorities were aware four people were planning to cause trouble at the school’s basketball game. When the four designated individuals were prevented from attending the basketball game, they went to a parking lot near the football field and shot three people. One of the shooters refused to drop his weapon for police then turned his weapon toward a deputy. Thomas said the deputy “did what he was trained to do” but didn’t elaborate. Those injured were transferred to the hospital. The high school is closed for Wednesday but school counselors will be available between 10:00 and 2:00.
