A Farmington Hills family escaped their home early on Friday morning after a fire broke out. The fire started in the basement of the home, which is located on Nottingwood Street, near Orchard Lake and 12 Mile Roads. As the family was opening Christmas gifts, the parents smelled the fire and got their three children out of the home safely. Farmington Hills Fire Department Lt. Jamie Neurfled told WXYZ Detroit, “Obviously, you don’t want that on any night, but that is there present: they are out safe.” The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation is underway.
