A state senator from Detroit could be charged today for shooting at the car of his ex-wife. Police say Virgil Smith opened fire during an argument at his home on the east side. The woman was not hit, but Police Chief James Craig says the car was hit 10 times. Craig says Smith is cooperating with police. He says Smith is being investigated for aggravated assault with a weapon. Any final decision on charges would come from the county prosecutor.
