Macomb County prosecutor Eric Smith will be charged with embezzlement, forgery, tampering with evidence, and conducting a criminal enterprise in the handling of drug and alcohol forfeiture funds, according to the office of Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.
The money is supposed to be used for law enforcement purposes. State Police have been investigating for months.
Smith is charged by the Michigan attorney general’s office. Smith denies any wrongdoing and says he has cooperated with the investigation. Smith has not been arraigned.
