Anti abortion activists have submitted petitions designed to go around Gov. Whitmer to try to ban dilation and evacuation abortions.
The group Michigan Values Life got 380-thousand signatures. They need 340-thousand valid signatures to take the ban to the state legislature. Republican lawmakers approved identical bills in May but the governor would veto the bills. With this petition process it could be approved again to become law without the governor’s signature. The legislature has 40 days to vote.
