The Detroit mayor’s office is accused of abusing it’s authority in connection with the close ties between Mayor Duggan and the director of a program to combat infant mortality.
The city’s Inspector General released a report saying the mayor gave preferential treatment to the program ‘Make Your Date’ at Wayne State University. The report says the mayor’s chief of staff, Alexis Wiley, ordered staff to delete e-mails related to to the non-profit program.
The Inspector General report says the deletion order was an abuse of authority which undermined public trust.
The report says Make Your Date was chosen as a method to fight infant mortality outside of the normal selection process.
Make Your Date was run by Dr. Sonia Hassan, with whom the mayor reportedly had a close personal relationship.
