LANSING, Mich. ~ Michigan voters could soon face a decision that may shape the state’s future, as discussion grows over whether to hold a constitutional convention for the first time in decades. The interview examined how delegates would be elected, what powers they would have to revise the 1963 Michigan Constitution and why growing dissatisfaction with government could be driving support for the proposal.
The conversation also highlighted the wide range of issues that could be debated if a convention is approved, from government structure and education policy to tax limits, workers’ rights and reproductive rights. Any changes proposed by delegates would ultimately return to voters for approval, giving residents the final say on whether a revised constitution should take effect.
