DETROIT ~ For many drivers, filling up the tank became more expensive overnight as gas prices rose by as much as 20 cents per gallon in some areas. The increase is forcing many commuters and families to adjust their budgets as fuel costs continue to fluctuate.

The spike comes as motorists were beginning to see more stable prices at the pump after months of volatility. With fuel costs affecting daily travel and business operations, consumers will be watching closely to see whether the increase is temporary or the start of a broader rise in prices.
