June 10, 2026 ~ Jordan Young reacts to the news that the Rocket Classic will not return after 2026 and what it means for Detroit’s golf scene.
DETROIT, MICH. ~ After eight years, Detroit will lose its only PGA Tour tournament later this summer as the Rocket Classic will be leaving the Detroit Golf Club. The 2026 Rocket Classic will tee off from July 30-Aug. 2, marking the final tournament as Rocket declined its option for 2027 after 13 years as a title sponsor.
“We are incredibly proud of what this tournament has meant to the city, from creating unforgettable moments for fans to raising more than $10 million for local organizations,” Rocket said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. “During the pandemic, we expanded our focus to include bridging the digital divide, helping Detroit make tremendous progress from one of the least digitally connected large cities to a leader in digital inclusion. Rocket’s commitment to Detroit is as strong as ever. We look forward to celebrating the final Rocket Classic in 2026 and the lasting impact this tournament has had on the city.”
This year will feature top-10 golfers Cameron Young, Russell Henley and Xander Schauffele, along with the unveiling of the $16.1 million renovations at the DGC, but bringing premier golf talent to Detroit consistently along with changes to the PGA Tour’s calendar and a lack of fan attendance have been challenges for the Rocket Classic.
The PGA will be involved in the Metro Detroit market in the future decades, as the 2034 and 2051 U.S. Open will be held at the newly renovated Oakland Hills Country Club.
