DETROIT, MICH. ~ The Detroit Tigers have had a disastrous month of May. After dropping the third game of the series to the Los Angeles Angels 7-1 Thursday afternoon at Comerica Park, Detroit is officially last place in the American League with a 22-35 record.
The last time the Tigers won a series was back on Sunday, May 3 against the Texas Rangers at home. They have lost seven straight since.
Injuries have hurt the team on both sides of the ball. Starting pitcher Tarik Skubal has yet to return after having surgery earlier in the month for loose bodies found in his elbow, and the offense is desperately missing production from outfielder Kerry Carpenter and second baseman Gleyber Torres. The good news is that both Carpenter and Torres will be in Toledo this weekend for rehab games.
Detroit will head to Chicago tomorrow night for a weekend series against the White Sox. First pitch is set for 7:40 p.m. Starting pitcher Troy Melton is set to return to the mound for the Tigers against Erick Fedde for Chicago.
