April 13, 2026 ~ John Burtka III of the Coalition for a Prosperous America discusses his op‑ed, “To rebuild manufacturing, America needs more than tariffs,” and what real solutions could look like.
A representative from a manufacturing organization believes tariffs are just the start to rebuilding domestic manufacturing industries.
John Burtka III, director of advancement and outreach of the manufacturing nonprofit and lobbying group Coalition for a Prosperous America, recently published a column in the Detroit News, “Burtka: To rebuild manufacturing, America needs more than tariffs.” He claimed actions like tariff enforcement and workforce development are needed to bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.
“Tariffs are necessary because they stop some of the bleeding of unfair competition, but they’re not the whole answer. They’re just the beginning volley,” Burtka told WJR. “We need a lot more than just tariffs.“
