April 13, 2026 ~ Jamie Edmonds shares a personal update with ‘JR Morning listeners, announcing her breast cancer diagnosis and what it means for her time on the show. In this emotional but clear-eyed conversation, Jamie explains how she found her diagnosis, why she’s stepping back temporarily, and the reasons behind her choice to tell her story publicly.
(CONTINUED) Edmonds, 42, said the diagnosis came unexpectedly about two months ago and described it on the air as a “total gut punch.” A mother of a young daughter, she acknowledged the fear that followed the discovery but said she is confident in her care team and treatment plan at Henry Ford Health. Edmonds told listeners she has already begun chemotherapy and believes she will get through the process.
During treatment, Jamie will step back from JR Morning on the advice of her oncologist, who emphasized the importance of consistent sleep and recovery during chemotherapy. She made clear that the change is temporary and that she plans to remain connected to WJR and its audience as she is able while focusing on her health.
Edmonds said she chose to make her diagnosis public after drawing strength from others who had gone through breast cancer, support that helped her navigate what she described as the darkest early days following diagnosis. The experience led her to a personal decision to speak openly, she said, explaining, “I’ve told other people’s stories for a long time during my broadcasting career, and I think it’s maybe time I tell my own.”
