BAHAMAS ~ A Michigan woman who disappeared in the Bahamas on Saturday is still missing, with her husband now in police custody after he was arrested for reporting her disappearance.
Michigan resident Brian Hooker, 59, was arrested by Bahamian police on Wednesday and was being questioned about the disappearance of his wife, Lynette Hooker, 55, who fell off a boat their yacht called “Soulmate.” The husband was with her on the boat heading towards Elbow Cay Saturday evening, when he said she fell off the boat, then was carried away by currents. Brain Hooker then claimed he had to paddle his way back to shore and told authorities what happened Sunday morning, prompting a search-and-rescue operation.
The U.S. Coast Guard has launched a criminal investigation into Lynette Hooker’s disappearance. The husband’s attorney said in a statement that he denies any wrongdoing in his wife’s disappearance.
