April 3, 2026 ~ Detroit Tigers fans are gathering in Downtown Detroit for Opening Day. The Tigers are holding their home opening game at Comerica Park against the St. Louis Cardinals and the party is already underway. The chilly, wet weather from earlier in the week has moved out and the temperature for the first pitch at game time is expected to be 66 degrees. It looks like fans will be able to enjoy their tailgates without the threat of rain.
The Tigers are returning home after getting swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks. They have a 2-4 record, putting them in third place in the American League Central Division behind Cleveland and Kansas City. The Cardinals are in second place in the National League Central Division.
Free agent Framber Valdez will start for the Tigers. The 32 year old Valdez had a 13-11 record last season with the Houston Astros. The Cardinals are starting Michael McGreevey. Former Tiger Brandon Inge will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
