IRAN ~ Oil transports and infrastructure continue to be targeted in the Middle East as the U.S. national gas price passes $4 Tuesday morning.
A Kuwaiti oil tanker off the coast of Dubai was set ablaze following an Iranian strike, though no spills or injuries were reported from the scene after the fire was contained. Meanwhile, Iran’s Health Ministry has reported that the desalination plant on Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf is not currently operating due to an air strike.
The rise in oil prices is due to Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping passage for the global oil supply, to the U.S., Israel, and its allies. The closure was in retaliation for the U.S. and Israel launching a military offensive against Iran over a month ago.
The death toll from U.S.-Israeli airstrikes in Iran is near 2,000, with Israeli strikes in Lebanon killing over 1,200. Iran’s retaliatory strikes have killed dozens across the region, including in Qatar, Israel, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq.
