JUPITER, Florida ~ Tiger Woods was arrested Friday after a rollover crash on Jupiter Island, Florida, with authorities saying the golfer was impaired while driving. The crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. near Beach Road, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. No injuries were reported.
Investigators said Woods was driving an SUV that attempted to pass another vehicle on a narrow, two‑lane residential road with a posted speed limit of 30 mph. Deputies said the SUV clipped the other vehicle and rolled over onto its side. Both drivers were able to exit their vehicles, and neither required medical treatment.
Sheriff John Budensiek said Woods appeared impaired at the scene and was taken into custody. Authorities said Woods refused to submit to a breathalyzer and declined to provide a urine sample. Investigators stated the suspected impairment was not believed to be alcohol‑related, and toxicology results are pending. Woods is being held for at least eight hours under county policy while the investigation continues.
The arrest comes just days after Woods returned to competitive golf, appearing earlier this week in the TGL finals in South Florida. He has been rehabilitating from a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered in 2025 and from back surgery later that year. His status for upcoming PGA Tour events, including the Masters, remains unclear.
Friday’s crash adds to a documented history of driving incidents involving Woods. In 2017, he was arrested in Palm Beach County on suspicion of driving under the influence after police found him asleep behind the wheel; Woods later pleaded guilty to reckless driving, citing a reaction to prescription medication. In 2021, he was seriously injured in a single‑vehicle rollover crash in California, though investigators found no evidence of impairment and no charges were filed. Earlier, in 2009, Woods was cited for careless driving following a crash outside his Florida home.
