SAN DIEGO, CALIF. ~ The second-best prospect in the MLB will be on the field for Thursday’s Opening Day as the Detroit Tigers hit the West Coast for a 4:10 p.m. showdown against the San Diego Padres. Detroit announced Tuesday that third baseman Kevin McGonigle will make his Tigers debut after making a name for himself during Spring Training. The Tigers will throw back-to-back Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal at Petco Park against San Diego starter Nick Pivetta. With a bolstered pitching staff, including the return of Detroit legend Justin Verlander, and the continued development of young hitters, Detroit is vying to win the American League Central Division and go farther than the ALDS in the postseason in 2026.
