GROSSE POINTE, MI ~ A father is suing the Grosse Pointe Public School System after the district banned him from school property after he posted an anti-LGBTQ+ pride flag from one of the schools online.
The lawsuit claims the district violated Gary Pruitt’s First Amendment rights by banning him in October 2024 over posting a video of a pride flag in a Parcells Middle School classroom, calling the flag “controversial” and “intimidating.” The district said that the ban was made to “prioritize” the safety and welfare of its students and that “unauthorized entry into classrooms constitutes a violation of board policies and may warrant enforcement action.” The video was taken during a visit to the school during his child’s back-to-school night.
