NEW YORK CITY ~ Investigations are underway regarding a deadly crash that occurred Sunday night at LaGuardia Airport in New York City, as the ongoing partial government shutdown is causing further stress at airports.
A passenger jet from Air Canada crashed into a Port Authority airport vehicle on a runway, killing two pilots and injuring dozens of other people. Air traffic control at the time of the crash was dealing with an incident on United Flight 2384, where pilots were reporting a strange odor and had delayed its takeoff.
While TSA has faced staffing shortages due to a lack of paychecks during the partial shutdown, paychecks for air traffic controllers have been unaffected by the shutdown.
