WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI ~ On Wednesday, the Washtenaw County Health Department reported a measles case, making it Michigan’s first confirmed measles case of the year.
The contagious virus was found in an unvaccinated adult who may have exposed others from March 4-8, primarily in the Ypsilanti area. Symptoms of the virus include high fever, coughing, runny nose, red and watery eyes, tiny white spots inside the mouth, and a red, blotchy rash that usually starts on the face.
“Measles is highly contagious and spreads easily through the air,” said Washtenaw County Health Department Medical Director Dr. Juan Luis Marquez in a statement. “This means we need to alert people who may have been exposed. Anyone not vaccinated is likely to become ill if exposed.”
