DETROIT, MICH. ~ As the midterm election looms, the GOP is banking on bigger income tax returns to help sway voters. The Trump administration claims that the One Big Beautiful Bill has been the catalyst for this year’s pool of refunds. Early returns are more than double what last year’s returns produced at this time, according to IRS figures. Despite the jump, these numbers do not support White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt’s claim that the average refund will be $1,000.
