IRAN ~ On Sunday, Iranian leaders selected someone to replace the assassinated Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as Israeli strikes set Tehran ablaze by striking oil facilities in the city, causing “apocalyptic” scenes of thick smoke clouds and black rain.
Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the slain leader, was publicly announced as the new ruler, despite President Donald Trump stating he wanted the U.S. to have a role in picking a new leader of Iran. This comes amid U.S.-Israeli strikes that have been taking place for over a week now, killing at least 1,332 people. Iranian retaliatory airstrikes have killed seven confirmed U.S. troops in the region.
Israel struck oil depots in Iran’s capital on Sunday, with Tehran’s sky filled with thick, black smoke, blocking out the sun and causing breathing difficulties for residents. Reports then emerged of toxic rain falling from the sky due to the oil fumes.
The U.S.-Israeli airstrikes began March 1, with the Trump administration claiming that Iran is a “threat” to the U.S. Israel then began a new round in a recent string of military campaigns in Southern Lebanon, leaving almost 400 people dead as of Monday morning.
In retaliation, Iran has struck multiple sites in Israel, including the city of Tel-Aviv, while also striking U.S. assets in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, and Iraq. Strikes or missiles heading towards Cyprus, Turkey, and Azerbaijan have also been reported, but Iran has denied launching ballistics at these countries.
