EAST LANSING ~ Michigan State has put together one of its strongest campaigns in recent memory, emerging as a national powerhouse throughout the 2025–26 season. Sitting at 24-6-0 overall and ranked No. 1 in both the USCHO and USA Hockey polls, the Spartans have been consistent, disciplined and explosive across the schedule.
Within Big Ten play, the Spartans have been equally impressive, posting a 15-5-0 conference record and sitting near the top of the league table. Their ability to close out tight games, combined with a battle-tested approach on the road, has made them one of the most reliable teams in the conference heading into late February competition.

(CONTINUED) Offensively, the Spartans have benefited from balanced production, but freshman forward Porter Martone has been a headline force with 41 points in 28 games. Seniors like forward Charlie Stramel and forward Daniel Russell have provided veteran scoring output. MSU’s rookieclass has been especially impactful, adding speed and physicality that has unlocked new layers of the offensive structure. Those contributions have made the Spartans one of the more versatile attacks in college hockey this season, capable of both grinding out defensive wins and engaging in high‑tempo scoring battles.
On the back end, junior goaltender Trey Augustine has delivered an elite season, posting a 22-6-0 record, a .932 save percentage and a 1.96 goals-against average, numbers that place him among the top goalies in the NCAA. His consistency has settled the Spartans in difficult stretches and allowed their aggressive forecheck to flourish, knowing they have stability in the crease. As the season heads toward its final month, with key matchups looming against Ohio State and Minnesota, the Spartans appear poised for a deep postseason run, carrying momentum, depth and a clear identity that has defined their breakout year.
