MILAN, ITALY ~ The United States took home two gold medals Thursday, as women’s hockey defeated Canada 2-1 in overtime while Alysa Liu scored the highest total in the women’s single free skate final.
Farmington Hills native Megan Keller scored the winner, on a highlight move, in the extra period of the women’s hockey gold medal game. She also assisted on the game-tying goal as time wound down in the third.
For the first time in 24 years for the Americans, Liu finished her single free skating final on top of the Olympic podium after outlasting three elite performances from Japanese skaters to score a 226.79. The U.S. also claimed silver in the men’s 1500m speed skate after Jordan Stolz posted a time of 01:42.750.
