Local Program Helps Detroit Area Prisoners Put on Shakespeare Shows

Feb. 8, 2026 ~ The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance at Wayne State University is staging a production of Julius Caesar, running Feb. 6–15, 2026, at the Hilberry Gateway – the STAGE. The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance at Wayne State University is partnering with Shakespeare in Prison (SIP), Detroit Public Theatre’s signature community program, as the Community Engagement Partner for Julius Caesar. Michael J. Barnes, chair of the Maggie Allesse Department of Theatre and dance and Sophia Esch, director of Shakespeare in Prison, join Michigan Voices.
