Feb. 6, 2026 ~ Steve Courtney and Jamie Edmonds talk with Head Coach Tom Izzo. Izzo discusses the Spartans’ loss to the Golden Gophers and the upcoming game against Illinois.
DETROIT, MICH. ~ Michigan State basketball has lost back-to-back games for the first time all season after falling to Minnesota 76-73 Wednesday night. With a big game at home against No. 5 Illinois coming up Saturday night and the loss of sophomore starting shooting guard Divine Ugochukwu for the rest of the year, head coach Tom Izzo is looking to his redshirt sophomore starting point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. to step up in a big way after some questionable fouls against the Golden Gophers brought up national scrutiny.
“He’s done an incredible job in school and off the court and all that,” Izzo said on ‘JR Morning. “So you put a lot of things into it before you completely condemn somebody. And I think he’s got some growing up to do. It’s been addressed. It will continue to be addressed. But let’s not make him out to be something that he’s not either.”
