DETROIT — The North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) awards were announced today at the Detroit Auto Show, highlighting three models that judges say set benchmarks for innovation and value.
The Dodge Charger earned Car of the Year, edging out the Honda Prelude and Nissan Sentra. According to the official NACTOY release, jurors praised the Charger for its bold return to gas-powered performance after a brief electric detour, calling it “a tour de force” that blends muscle-car heritage with modern engineering.

NACTOY judges cited its street-smart design and performance upgrades, offering a fresh twist on affordability and versatility in a market increasingly focused on lifestyle trucks.
The Hyundai Palisade captured Utility Vehicle of the Year, beating the Lucid Gravity and Nissan Leaf. With three rows of seating, a refined interior, and new hybrid options, the Palisade stood out as a family-friendly SUV that delivers luxury touches at a price point under $40,000—a combination jurors said “hits the sweet spot for today’s buyers.”
The awards are determined by a panel of 50 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada, who evaluate vehicles on innovation, design, safety, performance, and value. This year’s winners reflect a balance of performance, practicality, and technology as automakers navigate a rapidly evolving market.
