DETROIT ~ Following his appearance in court on Monday, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick appeared on WJR on Wednesday to share why he filed a motion to dismiss court-orderd resitutions of $831,914 owed to Detroit taxpayers related to his 2013 corruption convictions.
“This restitution was not Kwame Kilpatrick’s restitution,” he claimed on “‘JR Morning with Chris Renwick, Lloyd Jackson, and Jamie Edmonds.” “I don’t have any embezzlement charges. I don’t have any misuse of public fund charges. So it’s a lot of misinformation about what this is.
“I’m just simply saying, ‘let’s turn the page in this case,‘” Kilpatrick continued. “This is an arbitrary figure, it’s not tied to a single document, (and) there’s absolutely not a single bit of research or paperwork that says that something happened in this case that was $1.5 million more that the city had to pay. Let’s just get rid of this.”
