EAST LANSING ~ Michigan State continued its early-season dominance Friday night, rolling past Detroit Mercy 84-56 at the Breslin Center. From the opening tip, the Spartans imposed their will, jumping out to a 7-0 lead and never looking back. By halftime, Tom Izzo’s squad had built a 16-point cushion, and the second half turned into a showcase of depth and athleticism. Junior forward Coen Carr brought the crowd to its feet with a thunderous alley-oop dunk, while the Spartans’ relentless pace left the Titans searching for answers.
The numbers told the story of Michigan State’s control. The Spartans shot 45.9% from the field and 29.6% from beyond the arc. They dominated the glass with 42 rebounds. Defensively, MSU suffocated the Titans, holding them to 36.7% shooting and just 25% from deep.

(CONTINUED) Individually, the Spartans showcased balance across the board. Senior forward Jaxon Kohler anchored the paint with strong interior play, scoring 13 points, while sophomore guard Jeremy Fears Jr. orchestrated the offense with poise, dishing out 11 assists to keep the attack flowing. Carr provided the highlight-reel moments, energizing the Breslin crowd with his athleticism.
For Izzo and his team, this win caps off an impressive start that includes victories over Arkansas and Kentucky.
