MICHIGAN ~ About 1.4 million Michiganders could lose food support come Nov. 1 due to the ongoing federal shutdown.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services was instructed by the federal government to suspend Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in November indefinitely due to a lack of funds caused by the shutdown. The shutdown, now in its fifth week, is caused by the Senate being locked in negotiations over the proposed budget, centering on extending tax credits for the Affordable Care Act.
