DETROIT, Oct. 13, 2025 ~ The Detroit Tigers’ World Series hopes were crushed in a brutal 15-inning, 3-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners in Game 5 of the American League Divisional Series Friday night in Seattle.
Detroit’s President of Baseball Operations Scott Harris held a press conference Monday with Manager A.J. Hinch, who has officially agreed to a contract extension, to discuss the state of the team after falling in the ALDS for the second straight year.
“The most important thing, when I reflect on the entire season, is we went a calendar year from late August to late August with the most Major League wins of any organization, and we finished the 2025 season with the best overall organizational record,” Harris said.

Adding a veteran right-handed infield bat is one of the team’s biggest needs after the young core showed that there still needs to be a lot of development after the Game 5 loss. Third baseman Alex Bregman was at the top of Detroit’s list last offseason, and if he decides to leave Boston, adding him to next year’s lineup could significantly boost the offensive output with the addition of some of the prospects the Tigers are excited about.
Harris declined to comment on the status of AL Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal, who has one year of control left before he hits free agency in 2026.
