DETROIT, July 1, 2025 ~ The Detroit Red Wings made a major splash early in the 2025 offseason by re-signing veteran winger Patrick Kane to a one-year deal. After a productive 2024–25 campaign in which Kane tallied 59 points in 72 games, the 36-year-old returns to Detroit, bringing leadership and offensive creativity to a young, evolving roster. The Red Wings also gave winger Jonatan Berggren a one-year extension.
The Red Wings also swapped goaltenders, trading for veteran John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Petr Mrazek, a 2027 second-round pick, and a 2026 fourth-round pick. In a separate move, Detroit traded forward Vladimir Tarasenko to the Minnesota Wild for future considerations, clearing cap space after a 33-point, 80-game season.

(CONTINUED) At the 2025 NHL Draft, the Red Wings added eight new prospects to their pipeline, headlined by Carter Bear, a high-scoring winger from the Western Hockey League taken 13th overall. Detroit also selected Swedish forward Eddie Genborg in the second round and Slovakian goaltender Michal Pradel in the third.
As the team prepares for training camp, attention will turn to how these new additions integrate with established young players such as winger Lucas Raymond, and defensemen Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson.
