DETROIT, June 26, 2025 ~ Tensions flared on Capitol Hill as lawmakers prepared for a long-awaited classified briefing on Iran, following a controversial delay that drew sharp criticism from Democratic leaders. The session, originally postponed, is expected to address the recent U.S. strike on Iran’s nuclear capabilities and the administration’s handling of congressional notifications.

During an interview on “‘JR Morning,” Fox News Radio correspondent and WJR contributor Ryan Schmelz noted the unusual nature of the delay, saying, “I can’t remember it happening in the time I’ve been here.” Democratic leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, expressed frustration over the lack of timely communication, with Schumer reportedly receiving only an hour’s notice before the strike.

The briefing is expected to include CIA Director John Ratcliffe, replacing earlier plans for other officials. Schmelz added, “Certainly Ratcliffe is somebody who… can give some fairly clear answers. Now, what he’s going to be willing to tell these lawmakers is a whole other story.

The briefing comes as debate intensifies over the War Powers Act, with a potential Senate vote on a resolution by Senator Tim Kaine aimed at curbing executive military authority. However, prospects for passage appear slim amid partisan divisions and opposition from House leadership.
