DETROIT, June 16, 2025 ~ Festivities filled Comerica Park over the weekend, but the Detroit Tigers couldn’t cap it off with a series win against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Tigers organization celebrated Black history in baseball by hosting Black in Baseball Weekend, an initiative honoring the contributions of Black trailblazers who helped build the foundation of the franchise and continue to inspire future generations.

Sunday also marked Father’s Day, and Comerica Park welcomed a sellout crowd filled with families enjoying the festivities and warm weather.

Despite the celebratory atmosphere, the Tigers dropped the series to the Reds.

(CONTINUED) Game one was Detroit’s strongest showing, as the Tigers scored 11 runs behind a two-home-run performance from second baseman Gleyber Torres. Left fielder Riley Greene also homered and doubled, driving in four runs. Shortstop Javier Báez added a solo blast in the fourth inning.

Game two was a stark contrast, with the Tigers falling 11-1. Right fielder Wenceel Pérez recorded the team’s only run. Starter Jack Flaherty began the game strong but unraveled in the fifth inning, giving up six runs, including a grand slam by Reds’ catcher Tyler Stephenson.

With the series tied at one game apiece, the Tigers looked to close it out on Father’s Day in front of 40,000 fans. Detroit led 4-2 in the seventh inning, powered by home runs from Jahmai Jones and Pérez, and RBIs from Greene and Torres.

However, errors buried Detroit in the eighth inning. Reliever Will Vest gave up three runs, and Cincinnati shortstop Elly De La Cruz sealed the game with a two-run homer in the ninth.

The Tigers have a day off Monday before returning to action Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bailey Falter is scheduled to start for Pittsburgh, while Casey Mize will take the mound for Detroit.
