Detroit Sees Population Growth For Second Consecutive Year

May 16, 2025 ~ Census Bureau data from 2024 saw Detroit‘s population rise by about 6,800 people, or from 638,914 to 645,705, bucking a long trend of population decline. Mayor Mike Duggan talks with Lloyd Jackson, Jamie Edmonds, and Chris Renwick about Detroit’s population growing for the second consecutive year, leading Michigan for the first time since the 1950s, marking a major turnaround for the city.
