EAST LANSING, March 5, 2025 ~ No. 8 Michigan State basketball clinched at least a share of the Big Ten regular-season title Wednesday evening after No. 17 Michigan lost their second game in a row to No. 13 Maryland. With the Wolverines 71-65 home loss, the Spartans will have a chance to clinch an outright conference championship with a win in the team’s next game against Iowa.
Head coach Tom Izzo has officially tied Indiana’s Bob Knight and Purdue’s Ward “Piggy” Lambert with the most titles in conference history with 11. Earlier this season, Izzo passed Knight for all-time conference wins at 354.
The last time the Spartans won at least a share of the conference was in 2020, before COVID shut down the NCAA Tournament.

(CONTINUED) Only four out of the 11 titles have been won outright though. It has been seven years since the last time MSU has been the sole winner of the conference, as the team was upset in the second round of March Madness against Syracuse to finish the 2018 season.
After the final road game of the year in Iowa City, Michigan State will host rival Michigan for a rematch in the Breslin Center to cap off the regular season before the Big Ten Tournament.
Michigan State will hit the road for its next game on Thursday, March 6. Catch coverage on 760 WJR tipping off at 7 p.m.
