Salvation Army and WJR Raise Over $1.2 Million Through the 38th Bed & Bread Club Radiothon

DEARBORN, Feb. 28, 2025 ~ The Salvation Army’s 38th annual Bed & Bread Club Radiothon raised $1,229,910 to help the hungry and homeless in metro Detroit.

The 14-hour long radio radiothon aired live on 760 WJR, with its regular hosts Rene Vitale, Mike ParsonsGuy GordonLloyd JacksonKevin DietzMarie Osborne, Lomas Brown, Anthony Bellino, Steve Courtney, Chris Renwick, Ken Brown, and Mitch Albom all taking part to help riase money throughout the day. Special guests Detroit Radio Hall of Famer Dick Purtan, Bed & Bread Club Founder, actor and Michigan native Tim Allen, and Dan Aronson of the Artichoke Garlic Foundation also took part in the broadcast at Ford’s Garage in Dearborn.

It has been our station’s privilege to support the Radiothon for the past 14 years. The Bed & Bread Program is a critical community resource for our neighbors in need, providing direct support to thousands throughout the year,” said Steve Finateri, 760 WJR market manager. “We are thankful for the donations from our listeners. Their generosity makes a world’s difference.

(CONTINUED) The fundraiser benefited The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s Bed & Bread Program, which serves more than 4,300 meals each day to men, women, and children in need, equating to nearly 1.7 million meals every year. In addition, the program provides nearly 37,000 nights of shelter annually, along with warming items like hats, gloves, socks, personal supplies, and blankets. 

The Bed & Bread Program delivers its meals straight to the people who need them via mobile soup kitchens, 365 days a year at designated stops throughout the area.

The generous donations we received throughout the day will stretch across the entire year, providing Detroiters with warm, nutritious meals and a safe place to stay,” said Major Charlotte M. Koehler, metro Detroit area commander of The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division. “The Salvation Army team sends our deep appreciation to WJR and its listeners for making this event possible.

  • The Artichoke Garlic Foundation – $75,000.
  • Meridian – $50,000.
  • Moran Automotive – $38,000.
  • The Dick & Gail Purtan Family Foundation – $38,000.
  • Edsel B. Ford II – $35,000.
  • Tim Allen – $25,000.
  • Fifth Third Bank – $20,000.
  • National Food Group – $10,000.
  • Pat Milliken Ford – $10,000.
