EAST LANSING, Feb. 24, 2025 ~ Michigan State basketball (22-5) is back in the Associated Press and USA TODAY Sports Coaches poll top 10, checking in at No. 8 after two ranked wins against rival No. 15 Michigan and No. 20 Purdue.
The Spartans (13-3) took over first place in the Big Ten standings after winning in Ann Arbor last week, while the victory against the Boilermakers was the first for MSU over Purdue since 2022.
Freshman guard Jase Richardson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after averaging 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals while shooting 55.6% from the field and 57.1% from three. Richardson led the team in scoring in both wins over Purdue and the Wolverines, scoring 12 and 21 respectively.

(CONTINUED) Junior guard Tre Holloman followed Richardson’s performance with 18 of his own, including three clutch 3-pointers in the second half. Senior guard Jaden Akins and redshirt junior point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. also reached double figures in the scoring column.
Three of the last four games of the season for the Spartans will be played against ranked teams, including a rematch against Michigan at the Breslin Center. MSU will also play host to No. 11 Wisconsin, who holds the third best record in conference play. Head coach Tom Izzo is chasing a record-tying 11th conference regular season title.
