LANSING, Feb. 6, 2025 ~ On Wednesday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer unveiled her $83.5 billion budget, including increases in funding for public education, environmental programs, and more.
Included in the budget is a proposed tax on vaping products, about $1 million for an investigation surrounding the Oxford High School shooting, free school lunches, and infrastructure spending at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. However, Detroit News politics reporter Craig Mauger told WJR that the budget leaves little wriggle room for increasing spending on state roads, causing concerns for some members of the State Legislature.
