DETROIT, Feb. 3, 2025 ~ The Detroit Tigers have officially re-signed starting pitcher Jack Flaherty to a two-year, $35 million contract. After opening the 2024 season with Detroit, Flaherty was moved at the trade deadline for shortstop Trey Sweeney and Top 100 catcher prospect Thayron Liranzo.
After the trade, Flaherty spent the rest of the year with the Los Angeles Dodgers. During the back end of the season, he posted a 6-2 record and a 3.58 earned run average to help the Dodgers win the World Series.
Flaherty took to X to announce his own news to return to Detroit, minutes before national reporters sent out their posts of the signing.

(CONTINUED) In 18 games with the Tigers, Flaherty tallied a 7-5 record along with a 2.95 ERA and 133 strikeouts. He will be rejoining a pitching staff featuring Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal along with up-and-coming starters Reese Olsen and Jackson Jobe.
Flaherty joins a free agent class consisting of starting pitcher Alex Cobb, bullpen pitcher Tommy Kahnle, and second baseman Gleyber Torres. Reports that the Tigers are still interested in free agent third baseman Alex Bregman have also been confirmed by multiple national sources (Buster Olney – ESPN).
The Major League Baseball season is quickly approaching. Pitchers and catchers are set to report for Detroit on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
