MICHIGAN, Oct. 30, 2024 ~ A nonprofit is looking to convince the state of Michigan to build a passenger rail route from Northern Michigan to Southeast Michigan.
Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities recently announced that a study is being conducted to see the feasibility of the North-South Passenger Rail Project, which would run a rail line from Traverse City and Petoskey, through mid-Michigan, and end in Detroit. Carolyn Ulstad, Groundwork Center transportation program manager, told WJR that much of the rail lines needed for the route exist, but would need to be upgraded for passenger rail.
