DETROIT, October 10, 2024 ~ In the second playoff game Comerica Park has hosted this postseason, the Cleveland Guardians used multiple clutch runs to score a 5-4 win over the Detroit Tigers to knot the American League Division Series at two wins a piece.
After breaking the previous record for playoff attendance at home yesterday, the fans showed out once again Thursday evening.

(CONTINUED) Throughout the first half of the game, the Tigers had an answer for each Cleveland attack. After the Guardians scored in the top of the first, Detroit came back in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly from shortstop Trey Sweeney.
Cleveland went up by one again in the top of the fifth but third baseman Zach McKinstry drilled a ball over the opposite field fence in the bottom of the same inning for his first homerun of the playoffs.
After the Tigers tacked on another run for their first lead, a huge two-run home run from Guardian designated hitter David Fry completely flipped the momentum and ultimately helped them pull away with the win. An insurance run in the top of the ninth for Cleveland saved the game from going to extra innings.
Although the effort was valiant, the Tigers bullpen could not close out starting pitcher Reese Olson’s opening performance. With a rest day before the next game, the unit will get a chance to rest up before a make or break game to determine who moves to the American League Championship Series.
While the bad news is the failure to close out the series at home, the good news is that presumed AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal will take the mound for Detroit Saturday for the second time in Cleveland this series. First pitch is set for 4:38 p.m.
