Former Weight Watchers President and CEO Florine Mark Dies at 90

DETROIT, October 13, 2023 ~ Wellness influencer and philanthropist Florine Mark died Friday at the age of 90.

Mark, who many Metro Detroiters will remember as the regional pitch woman for Weight Watchers International, spent more than 50 years as the company’s leading franchise holder.

Beyond her success as an entrepreneur, Mark was an avid health and fitness advocate, aiding in the leadership of such efforts as the Michigan Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness and the Michigan Fitness Foundation board.

She was also known for her philanthropy, helping to raise funds and build awareness for organizations including the Detroit Institute for Children and Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

(CONTINUED) Reports suggest that Mark’s passing was unexpected, coming just one day after she sat down to talk with WXYZ-TV about her family in Israel and their fears over the Hamas / Israeli conflict. Mark’s 29-year-old grandson, Mataan serves as a reserve officer for the Israeli Defense Forces.

Florine was a fearless trailblazer and devoted friend,” said Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. “She was an icon and a leader who could encourage, empower, motivate, and inspire individuals to achieve their goals and be their best selves … I am grateful to have known Florine, and I know her memory will serve as an example for Michiganders to follow.”
